'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date, plot spoilers 2016: Said to have more than one villain, is Nuke one of them?

"Jessica Jones" was undoubtedly a success for Marvel's Netflix lineup. One of the main reasons for that success was David Tennant's chilling portrayal of Kilgrave (the Purple Man in the comics); never has the power of mind-control looked so scary as it did in the show. With Kilgrave gone, however, fans are wondering who Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) will go up against when the second season rolls in.

According to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Melissa Rosenberg has said that Jessica may be fighting more than one villain for the next season of "Jessica Jones." When asked about the new antagonist, she answers, "'antagonists,' plural." She then goes on to say that they will try to avoid making another Kilgrave as that would be the "biggest mistake" that they could do. No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don't do that," she says.

Some fans are guessing that the second season will see the return of Nuke a.k.a. Will Simpson (Will Traval). He was a candidate for another super soldier program that gave him different pills that enhanced his abilities but at the same time made him unstable. "Jessica Jones" introduced him as an ally-turned-foe.

The second season of "Jessica Jones" won't be Ritter's next appearance as the super-powered private investigator. Jessica will be appearing alongside the rest of Netflix's hero roster when "The Defenders" comes out next year. The series will be bringing together the likes of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Jessica Jones.

It is rumored that the team will be going up against the Hand. In the last season of "Daredevil," Daredevil and Elektra discover that the Hand has been preparing for an all-out war within the city. The war never came by the end of the season, but it could be planting the seeds early for the main plot of "The Defenders."

"Jessica Jones" season 2 is expected to come out in 2018.
