'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date, news & update: Rumored to feature 'Frozen,' 'Tangled,' 'Big Hero 6' and more

The exact release date of the action-role playing video game "Kingdom Hearts 3" is still unknown but there are several rumors going around regarding its arrival.

According to reports, the game developed by Square Enix is going to arrive sometime in 2017. It's actually a little later than scheduled because the title before it, "Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue," has been moved to January 2017 from its December 2016 release date. The gaming studio is also currently focused on the prologue for now so "Kingdom Hearts 3" is taking the backseat at the moment.

Nonetheless, fans can expect big things in store for the upcoming title as game director Tetsuya Nomura previously revealed to Japanese magazine Famitsu that "Kingdom Hearts 3" is "overwhelmingly big."

In fact, because of its size, Nomura expressed anxiety over handling it. The upcoming main game is going to be the last one in the franchise which is why the team is doing everything they can to make it worth it. They will be closing protagonist Sora's journey and what happens after that is uncertain for now.

Meanwhile, word has it that the game will be featuring more Disney worlds including hit animations like "Frozen," and "Tangled." It's also rumored that the superhero comedy film "Big Hero 6" will be included in the roster. "Wreck-It-Ralph" is also expected to be featured in the game.

Aside from that, reports said that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be coming along with new worlds that will feature "Marvel" and "Star Wars" characters. Other films purported to be part of the list include "Toy Story," "Jungle Book," "Brave," and "Zootopia."

Nothing is confirmed for now though so it's best to take these reports with a pinch of salt. Square Enix may also have to get the rights from Disney first before incorporating the animated films into the video game.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is rumored to be released for the PS4 and Xbox One but "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Prologue" is already set to be out by Jan. 24, 2017 for the PS4.
