Fans of Naughty Dog's zombie shooter "The Last of Us" have been pushing the studio to work on a sequel, and developers were said to have an idea for the game already until they had to prioritize working on "Uncharted 4."

According to Game N Guide, rumors about the game getting a sequel sprung up after voice actor Nolan North dropped a hint during the open forum of MertoCon. Thanks to a recent trademark filed by Sony, fans have hopes that "The Last of Us 2" may finally be in development.

The trademark that Sony has registered is for a game called "Days Gone," and fans are wildly speculating that this game will have some connection to "The Last of Us." Others say that it is a spin-off in the same post-apocalyptic world, but others are guessing that it could very well be a subtitle. After all, game sequels don't necessarily have to be numbered to be a sequel (e.g., Bioshock 3/Bioshock Infinite)

Speculations of a sequel to "The Last of Us" have also popped up in an easter egg found in "Uncharted 4." Gamers found a poster in the game depicting a woman in a gas mask holding a revolver with an inscription that reads "American Daughters." The poster's title was said to be obscured, but many are guessing that this is the poster for the "Last of Us" sequel.

Previous reports say that Neil Druckmann, creative director for Naughty Dog, has confirmed that the studio has plans for a sequel, it was all just put on halt when the team decided to work on Nathan Drake's next adventure with "Uncharted 4."

Though the game is confirmed, fans can expect "The Last of Us 2" to probably hit sometime in 2018. In the meantime, they can buy the remastered version of "The Last of Us" available on sale now.
