'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2 release date, cast news 2016: Actress for new Vixen cast; Nick Zano joins as Dr. Nate Heywood
Action-adventure television series "Legends of Tomorrow" is returning to the small screen for its second season. It's still a few months away from now but various reports are already hinting at what fans can expect when it airs its first episode.

According to reports, the show will be featuring the return of Vixen. However, it will no longer be portrayed by Megalyn Echikunwoke who appeared in "Arrow" as Mari McCabe. Her schedule could no longer accommodate the part; thus, the show decided to go back in time and look for a previous incarnation of the character.
It has now been announced that "The Originals" star Maisie Richardson-Sellers will be taking on the role of Amaya Jiwe, also known as Vixen. It's not the same Vixen though as Amaya is the grandmother of Mari. She will still use the same powers that Mari used, which is the Tantu Totem. By tapping into that mystical object, Amaya obtains the abilities of animals.
Richardson-Sellers, who also starred in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as Resistance commander Korr Sella, will become a series regular in season 2 while Echikunwoke will continue to voice Mari in the animated series on CW Seed.
Another new actor is also set to take a role in the upcoming season. As reported by Deadline, Nick Zano of "Minority Report" will be joining as a series regular. He will be playing as Dr. Nate Heywood, the grandson of Commander Steel, a member of the Justice Society of America.
Those who follow the comics may recall that Nate transforms into Steel/Citizen Steel. There are rumors going around that The CW is still undecided whether to let Nate walk in the same footsteps of his grandfather. But considering it's a superhero show, it's most likely to happen. Fans will have to stay tuned to find out more details.
"Legends of Tomorrow" returns on Oct. 13 on The CW.
