'Longmire' season 5 release date, news: Production almost complete; new season to debut in fall

Production on the fifth season of the Netflix crime drama "Longmire" is almost at its end and fans are clamoring for news on when they get to lay their eyes once again on Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) and the rest of the gang.

While Netflix has yet to announce the official premiere date for "Longmire" season 5, Carter Matt says that the new season will debut in the fall.

There has been no confirmation of the show's future beyond season 5, which means that the upcoming season could very well be the last. Nonetheless, the outlet notes that should this be the case, Netflix would have already announced that the end of season 5 marks the end of the series. Since there has been no such announcement, it may be safe to assume that Netflix isn't thinking of canceling "Longmire" just yet.

The publication also suggests that Netflix could unload an official trailer for "Longmire" season 5 later this summer. When the new season drops sometime in the fall, all season 5 episodes will be available at once, as per usual.

"Longmire" was canceled by A&E, which aired its first three seasons, in 2014. Later that year, Netflix picked up the series and made its fourth season available for streaming. In October 2015, the streaming giant announced that it had renewed the Western crime drama for a fifth season.

The announcement was made via the "Longmire" Facebook page.

"We've never been one to back down from a fight," the message read. "Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5."

Meanwhile, rumors indicate that the Walt and Vic (Katee Sackhoff) romance will finally be happening in "Longmire" season 5.

According to Game n Guide, season 5 will find Walt realizing that he has romantic feelings for Vic and the long-simmering tension between the two will finally evolve into a full-blown romance. However, the arrival of Donna (Ally Walker) could throw a wrench into the pair's budding relationship.

"Longmire" season 5 is expected to debut in the fall.
