'Mario Kart 8' DLC release date expected after E3; Kalimari Desert coming?

\"Mario Kart 8\" | Nintendo

It's been two years already since Nintendo released its eighth kart racing game "Mario Kart 8" to the public. Gamers are now wondering when they may possibly get a new downloadable content (DLC) for the game since it has been quiet for a little while already.

According to reports, a new DLC is expected to come to the game soon. Several had been looking forward to it during the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 event, but there was no word about it when the scheduled date came. Rumors suggest that since it did not appear at the video game conference, it's most likely to be unveiled post-E3, which means that it would be coming anytime soon this year.

Fans will just have to be patient, though. Nintendo UK recently posted on their official Twitter page a screenshot image of the Kalimari Desert from "Mario Kart 64." Its caption read, "Good things come to those who wait. #MK8." It doesn't reveal much but fans are speculating that it may have something to do with the rumored DLC that is coming.

Nintendo Life detailed that the classic race course made its reappearance in "Mario Kart 7" in 3DS. It was a nostalgic surprise for the fans and now many are taking a guess that it will be appearing again in future "Mario Kart" games including the eighth installment.

It's also speculated that the new DLC will be packed with new characters, vehicles, race options and tracks. The previous major updates in the game came with feature content from other franchises like "Animal Crossing" and "The Legend of Zelda." There was also the addition of the super speed option for 200cc races as well as in-game purchase items like character costumers, tracks, motorbikes and cars.

Picking up from that clue, the alleged new DLC may be coming with similar features and add-ons or more. Fans will have to stay tuned for more updates on "Mario Kart 8."
