"Maze Runner 3" will be hitting theaters a little later than originally scheduled as lead star Dylan O'Brien has been given more time to recuperate after an accident last year that took place during filming of the movie.

According to reports, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will now premiere in January 2018. It has been pushed back from its original release date which was supposed to be in February 2017. The good news though is that O'Brien is recovering and he will be back on track for shooting next year.

It is said that filming is expected to resume sometime next February. However, rumor has it that the 25-year-old actor has already been working on "Teen Wolf" season 6. The MTV series is set to air by Nov. 15 and he may be shooting it first to reprise his role as Stiles Stilinski.

Fans are wondering now why O'Brien is delaying his return to the film if he is fit enough to work for "Teen Wolf." Nothing is certain but reports suggest that he may be delaying his return to the movie due to some legal actions against Fox.

O'Brien sustained serious injuries while filming a stunt scene for the sequel of "The Maze Runner" franchise in Vancouver, Canada. He suffered a concussion, facial fracture and lacerations. Deadline notes that O'Brien fractured either his cheekbone or orbital socket. Other details of O'Brien's accident were kept under wraps for the protection of the workers' privacy.

The production was halted immediately after O'Brien was injured. It was then scheduled to return last May 9. But due to reasons such as giving more time for O'Brien to heal, the schedule was postponed again. Everything has been rescheduled and filming will be up and running early next year. However, the production will be changing set locations.

"The Maze Runner: Death of Cure" will premiere on Jan. 12, 2018.
