Microsoft plans to make a splash in the smartphone game when it makes its inevitable comeback. Details on its vision for the Microsoft Surface Phone are the subject of latest reports.

During the Build Tour London event, Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Windows Kevin Gallo emphasized that the company will focus primarily on the enterprise sector with its smartphone products, presumably beginning with the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Gallo believes that in any case, competing in the low-end smartphone market was never going to turn out well for the software company to begin with.

"We're really aligned to what we've done on the Windows desktop, which is we'll lead with some high end and category innovation like we've done with Surface, and OEMs will go and build the breadth of the catalog," Gallo revealed via The Register.

During the event, Gallo underscored that Microsoft isn't done with the Windows Phone despite the company selling its feature phone business.

Gallo believes that for the smartphone division, Microsoft will be better off focusing on its strength, which is the business segment. Reports about the specs and features of the Microsoft Surface Phone certainly fits it right in.

It also directly pits the flagship against the Windows 10 device HP Elite X3, which was always believed to be one of the biggest competitions of the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Though Gallo did not explicitly mention Microsoft Surface Phone, the much talked-about flagship is believed to be the device the tech company will go for when it returns to the smartphone scene.

According to reports, the Microsoft Surface Phone will be released by March 2017. The top-tier handset is expected to pack as much as 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

There will reportedly be a 6GB version with 128 GB of storage. The entry-level model of the Microsoft Surface Phone will reportedly offer 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

These massive RAM configurations are expected to be paired with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor. The device is reportedly getting a built-in QWERTY keyboard too.
