NetherRealm Studios is currently busy trying to promote its "Injustice: Gods Among Us" sequel, but fans of the "Mortal Kombat X" series have been waiting for updates for the game. Luckily, "Mortal Kombat" creator Ed Boon has confirmed that "Mortal Kombat XL" DLC is coming soon, just not when players are expecting it.

As Ecumenical News noted, fans were waiting for a "Mortal Kombat" announcement during the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) 2016, and they were disappointed that they didn't get anything from NetherRealm at the time. Boon, however, posted on Twitter that there were no plans to make any new updates on "Mortal Kombat" during the event. He didn't crush all hopes, as he told fans that there is big "MKXL" news coming.

It is quite possible that "Mortal Kombat X" updates have been put on the wayside to make room for "Injustice 2." The "Injustice" games share the same fight mechanics as "Mortal Kombat," and it allows players to control heroes and villains from the DC Universe. NetherRealm (formerly Midway) first introduced DC characters to the "Mortal Kombat" genre back in 2008 when they launched "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe," and it was met with mediocre reviews. With the "Injustice" series, they seem to have improved on the use of DC characters, and it was met with praise from fans.

No official news has been released on what to expect from the "Mortal Kombat XL" DLC, but Boon held a poll on his Twitter account asking which characters should be improved on. About 35 percent of the voters picked Sub-Zero, and 31 percent voted for Tremor.

Gamers are also expecting the DLC Kombat Pack 3 to have Fujin, Sindel, and Smoke, since they were teased back in the 2nd DLC. Players got a different set of characters then, but they could be getting the promised trio when the new pack is announced.
