'Narcos' season 2 update: Pablo Escobar's actor Wagner Moura confirms new season will be his last

Wagner Moura, who plays drug kingpin Pablo Escobar on the Netflix series "Narcos," has confirmed during a press tour that the second season of the show will be his last.

At the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour, Moura revealed that "Narcos" season 2 will see the famous Colombian drug dealer die. The real Pablo Escobar, of course, died back in 1993 at the age of 43, so viewers would expect to see exactly how that happened in the show — just not so soon.

Meanwhile, "Narcos" executive producer Jose Padilha explained that the show was not about Pablo Escobar.

"Pablo Escobar happens to be the man who created the mass business of cocaine trade," he said. "He's, for lack of a better word, the founding father of this business but the show is about cocaine. It's about drug dealers that deal cocaine."

Going back to Moura, he said that season 2 will see Escobar at his most vulnerable state. "This is the season where we're going to start see the fall of this guy," said Moura.

Compared to the first season, which showcased a 15-year timeline, the second season will be covering the few months that led to the death of Escobar, and it will apparently be more "character-driven."

Escobar's exit from the show may not entirely be a bad thing. Earlier this month, Escobar's real-life brother, Roberto Escobar, was planning on suing Netflix for the alleged wrongful portrayal of his family members. Roberto demanded that they stop streaming the show unless they let him view all of the episodes to allow him to determine how accurate the portrayal of his family was. He was reportedly asking for $1 billion if his demands weren't met.

"Narcos" without Pablo Escobar is like "Breaking Bad" without Walter White, but viewers will just have to trust the showrunners with what they're doing.

The premiere of "Narcos" season 2 will air Friday, Sept. 2 on Netflix.
