BBC America's breakout original series "Orphan Black" has been renewed for its fifth season, which will be its last.

According to Deadline, BBC America and Canadian network partner Space have picked up the sci-fi thriller for a 10-episode final season that will air in 2017. The news was announced just as "Orphan Black" was gearing up for its shocking season 4 finale on Thursday night.

The season 4 ender, which saw the clones and their loved ones getting into various kinds of life-threatening situations, was filled with surprising twists, turns, departures and returns.

During the episode, viewers found out that despite her recent takedown of Evie Cho (Jessalyn Wanlim), Rachel (Tatiana Maslany) was ultimately only looking out for herself and the human cloning program. As the season ended, she stabbed both her own mother, Susan Duncan (Rosemary Dunsmore), and Sarah (also Maslany). She also pretty much sabotaged everything that her sister clones have been working for all season.

The season 4 finale also saw the long-awaited reunion of Cosima (also Maslany) and Delphine (Évelyne Brochu), her girlfriend and fellow scientist.

Speaking with TVLine about the season 4 finale, "Orphan Black" creator Graeme Manson talked about the possibility of Cosima making a full recovery now that she has found a cure.

"I think we can all take a breath of relief...," Manson said. "But let's not forget that gene therapy is an experimental procedure, in the real world as well as on the show."

As for seeing more of Delphine in the show's fifth season, the "Oprhan Black" boss said, "In some capacity, for sure."

"It was always our desire to bring Delphine back, and we had to play tight-lipped and deflect and lie and keep our secret last year," he said, adding that the task was neither easy nor pleasant. Manson aded that he and the rest of the "Orphan Black" team are doing their best to let the story of Delphine and Cosima play out through the rest of the series.

Hinting at what fans can expect when "Orphan Black" season 5 airs, Manson told Entertainment Weekly: "Rachel is Sarah's nemesis, and I think it's safe to say in season 5 – fingers crossed – we will be going back to that elemental Sarah versus Rachel nemesis dynamic."

"Orphan Black" season 5 debuts in 2017 on BBC America and Space.
