'Overwatch' DLC news 2016: First DLC character may have been hinted by Blizzard

Will the \"Overwatch\" DLC reveal the mystery of Liao? | Play Overwatch

In the latest blog post of developer Blizzard Entertainment about its new multiplayer first-person shooter "Overwatch," it dropped a clue on what the game's first DLC will be all about.

The blog post mentions a character named Liao, who is credited to be one of the founding members of Overwatch along with Morrison, Reyes, Amari, Wilhelm and Lindholm.

The latter five have shown up in "Overwatch" at some point and have been formally introduced in the game. This isn't the case for Liao because the blog is the first time the character is mentioned.

Blizzard brought up the character's existence as if he or she was already an established character in the game's universe. There was no image or anything else shown about Liao apart from being recognized as one of the originators of Overwatch.

Other than having a hand in the creation of the international task force of heroes, there's nothing else shown or said about Liao and fans wondered about that too, looking at the comments section of the blog.

However, media outlets believe that this lack of information is intentional. Liao is expected to be introduced in "Overwatch" DLC complete with a back story of how the individual got involved in the war and in the elite crew.

Fans surmise that Liao has a connection to Mei-Ling, who is in the game. Other than that, it's anybody's guess who Liao really is. Hopefully, a concrete answer to this will be revealed in the first "Overwatch" DLC, which, unfortunately, does not have a release date yet.

According to Irish Examiner, more information about Liao might also be provided in the game's first patch set to be released this month. However, for now, Liao will be nothing but a mystery until Blizzard decides to discuss the character.

"Overwatch" was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and personal computer (PC) last week, May 24.
