Showtime's "Penny Dreadful" ended its three-season run last June 19, but fans are still hopeful on getting a spin-off series, especially after the death of Vanessa Ives, Eva Green's quietly driven heroine. The showrunners originally planned for the series to run only three seasons, but fans have begun raising an online petition for another network to pick-up the show for a potential spin-off.

According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, David Nevins, president of Showtime, says that a spin-off is still possible. "[As for spinoffs,] anything is possible at any time," Nevins said. Fans take this as a glimmer of hope for the series, because, aside from Vanessa, the show has other interesting characters with their own stories to tell. With timeless classic horror icons like Dracula, Van Helsing, and Frankenstein's monster continually getting modern retellings, one can expect the show to have an abundant playground of story possibilities.

Many viewers seemed unhappy with the way "Penny Dreadful" ended, with fans saying that the ending was not well thought of. Many are petitioning for another network to pick the series up, or to at least have a limited season run with Showtime to at least provide the closure that fans wanted.

After the series ended, several viewers have been thinking of ending their subscription with Showtime. The only dramas in the network's roster are "Homeland," "The Affair," "Masters of Sex," "Ray Donovan," "Billions," and "Shameless." Other upcoming series include Patti Smith's "Just Kids," which "Penny Dreadful" creator John Logan is a part of; Cameron Crowe's "Roadies"; Jim Carrey's "I'm Dying Up Here"; "Purity," which stars Daniel Craig; and John Ridley's "Guerrilla," starring Idris Elba.

Though "Penny Dreadful" has found its end, fans can still look to the future in hopes that a spin-off will eventually get picked up soon.
