'Persona 5' release date news 2016: Gameplay footage launched; features daily activities of protagonist

The release date of upcoming role-playing video game "Persona 5" is approaching fast and fans who are interested to pick up the sixth installment in the "Persona" series are excited to play the game already.

The hype is heightened even more after developer Atlus hosted a "Persona 5" livestream to feature the daily activities of the protagonist.

According to reports, Atlus revealed during the livestream on Niconico some gameplay footages of after-school activities such as sparring, playing retro video games, going on a date, watching TV with Ryuji, watching a movie with Futaba, fishing, answering crossword puzzles, eating in restaurants and many more.

It is said that the ordinary activities serve as a way to enhance the skills and traits of the protagonist. For instance, answering the crossword puzzle gains the character stat boosts.

And since the game comes with social simulation elements, a lot of exchange of conversations among characters are expected. One footage even showed the main character running into Anne at the confessional booth and she does not seem happy to see him there.

Another thing that was teased in the game was the new crafting system. A video showed the introduction of the new feature and it revealed that the crafting system can now permit the main character to modify equipment and items outside a shop. There are also various poses for characters when performing finishing moves.

Atlus did not just randomly initiate the livestream though. Reports say the 24-hour stream is considered as the countdown to the "Persona 5" Premium Event. Atlus is going to reveal a total of seven new announcements on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. JST. The streaming for those announcements will still be at Niconico so fans should stay tuned to check on that.

"Persona 5" is set to hit store shelves on Sept. 15 in Japan. It will be made available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. A western release will follow on Feb. 14, 2017.
