'Pitch Perfect 3' release date, cast news 2016: New director confirmed; Anna Kendrick returning as Beca

"Pitch Perfect 3" still has a long way to go before fans could go and see it, but updates regarding the third installment of the movie franchise have already surfaced as early as now.

The latest to hit headlines is the news regarding the new director who will take over the production. According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie will now be helmed by "Step Up: All In" director Trish Sie. She will be taking over the spot of Elizabeth Banks who was supposed to be the one set to direct the movie.

Banks directed the second installment of the franchise, but she decided to step down from the role for the third film and just be a producer. Banks revealed to Tim that although she wanted to do it, she felt the pressure of creating a sequel that can surpass the first two movies.

"There was definitely that pressure. It is very rare, and because it's rare, I unfortunately—whether I like it or not—am taking on a role here...if I didn't do it well, they would absolutely say, 'If she couldn't do it, I guess women can't do it!'" Banks stated.

Banks, who will reprise her role as Gail in the film, also made the announcement herself wherein she posted a photo of her and Sie in her Twitter account. She expressed her excitement over Sie's leadership for the movie. Aside from the final "Step Up" movie, Sie also helped create music videos for OK Go. With her credentials, fans can expect a whole new level of fun from "Pitch Perfect 3."

In other news, actress Anna Kendrick will be reprising her role as Beca in the third film. Rumors saying that Kendrick will no longer return to do some acapella performances with the Barden Bellas have been debunked. The "Mr. Right" actress confirmed her comeback herself.

Aside from Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Hailee Steinfeld will be back as Fat Amy, Chloe, and Emily respectively.

"Pitch Perfect 3" is expected to premiere in December 2017.
