'PlayStation Plus' August 2016 free games news update: 'Yakuza 5' to be offered as a free game?

Sony

There are rumors going around the web that Sega's PS3-exclusive open-world game, "Yakuza 5," will be offered as a free game in the PlayStation Plus August 2016 line-up.

According to PlayStation Universe, the rumor comes from a recent slip-up by Sony when they accidentally put "Yakuza 5" in the PlayStation Store for free. Dozens of users were able to download the game before the company realized their mistake and pulled it out of the store. It's now available for purchase at $40.

The so-called "mistake" is not without its little pros. This resulted in a sudden renewed interest in the game, and some gamers believe that it will be offered free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Other games that fans have been hoping to come for free include "Bloodborne" and "Infamous Second Son" for PlayStation 4. As for PlayStation 3 games, people are looking forward to "God of War 3" and "Gran Turismo 5." The PlayStation Vita is rumored to have games from the "Dead or Alive" franchise, as well as "The Evil Within" and the "Resident Evil" games.

For fans who couldn't wait for the announcement of free games in August, there are still games that are currently available for the July line-up, and they include "Furi" and "Saints Row: Gat out of Hell" for PS4, "Fat Princess" and "Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood" for PS3, and "Prince of Persia: Revelation" plus "Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines" for PlayStation Vita.

As Vine Report noted, the PlayStation Store PLAY 2016 campaign has also started, and gamers are given a time period to pre-order upcoming games that are scheduled to have their console-first debut.

There have been no official announcements on the free games that will be offered for PS Plus subscribers, but fans can expect an official reveal most probably by the end of July.
