Later this week, fans should finally learn when exactly the long-awaited "Prison Break" season 5 will premiere, as promised by the writers of the show via Twitter.

Fans hope that a trailer or at least a teaser will be dropped as part of the announcement. After all, a lot of the season has been wrapped up already.

Prior to this announcement, the only thing made clear about "Prison Break" season 5 is that it will premiere later this year. Some cast members have been talking about a September launch.

The writers, as well as executive producer Vaun Wilmot, have been updating fans on the production of the new season. The latter has said multiple times on his Twitter that the return of "Prison Break" will happen this year.

Wilmot recently shared on Twitter that they are now shooting the fourth and fifth episode of the season, which takes them already halfway the production. It appears to involve a big airport scene of some sort.

Inbar Lavi, who was cast in a recurring role in "Prison Break" season 5, shared a couple of photos prior to the filming of what she described an "epic" scene. She was with director Guy Ferland and co-star Rockmond Dunbar.

Meanwhile, even though "Prison Break" season 5 is yet to air, fans are already clamoring and asking for a sixth season. "Prison Break" writers revealed that they only prepared one ending for the season, although they are still not discounting the possibility of being renewed for more. "There's always another story to tell if the network decides to bring the show back," the writers said. In another tweet, they explained that for now, "Prison Break" season 5 is simply on the cards and nothing beyond, at least not yet. "Right now, these are the only episodes planned. But if ratings are amazing, you never know," the writers tweeted.

"Prison Break" season 5 marks the return of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who was revealed to be alive and is imprisoned in Yemen. Miller has been spotted shooting in a set made into a Middle Eastern café, hinting that he may not be behind bars after all.

Even so, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Sara Trancedi (Sarah Wayne Callies) will come to save him.
