'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers, plot news: Major character death rumored, Mahone not returning

Actor William Fichtner won't reprise his role as FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agent Alexander Mahone in "Prison Break" season 5.

There were no explanations provided on why he won't be in the "Prison Break" revival series, but Fichtner's hectic schedule has reportedly prevented him from being on the show.

Fichtner will appear in a new series titled "Shooter" instead. He is also going to get more screen time in "Mom" now that he has been promoted to series regular.

On top of that, he was too busy filming several movies to make it to "Prison Break" season 5 production even just a cameo or quick reappearance.

His past and ongoing projects include "Independence Day: Resurgence," which just hit the theaters and four other movies in varying levels of progress.

It is unclear if Fichtner's character was originally planned to be included in "Prison Break" season 5 or if the actor was approached to reprise his role.

Since Paul Kellerman (Paul Adelstein), who the character relentlessly went after in "Prison Break," will return, it made sense that he will be there. Mahone also helped break out Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies).

While on the subject of Sara, there are "Prison Break" season 5 spoilers making the rounds online regarding her purported death in the limited series.

According to reports, Sara's demise in "Prison Break" season 5 will make for a jumping-on point for season 6, which is yet to be announced.

At the moment, the "Prison Break" revival series is only slated for a nine-episode run. A follow-up season hasn't been confirmed although fans hope there will be one.

With regards to the possible death of Sara in "Prison Break" season 5, there aren't concrete details to corroborate this yet, but it will certainly be an intriguing direction to take.

"Prison Break" season 5 will follow Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) break his brother Michael (Wentworth Miller) from a prison in Yemen, where he worked for an organization the whole time his death was faked.
