'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date news 2016: Development underway; creator takes time to explain the wait

Fans will be pleased to hear that the third season for Adult Swim's animated sci-fi adventure comedy, "Rick and Morty," is well underway, and Dan Harmon, one of the co-creators, takes time to explain what's happening behind-the-scenes, and why fans have a long wait ahead of them for the third season.
According to Cinemablend, Harmon explains that the production process is taking its time because the animators are trying their best to perfect the work, and it takes time for them to get satisfied with the output.
"It's been harder this season... I watched the thumbnail animatic of Episode 304 and I was ready to move forward with it and Ryan [Ridley] said 'We're not satisfied with it,' and we were already behind schedule. They have to bear the brunt of the schedule, they have to work weekends. They are the ones that wanted to do it. There's a weird higher calling there, and it's not an endless perfectionism because you know when something finally clicks and you go 'This is a good episode of TV.' But it's not just me, and I was very happy to find that out," he said during a panel at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con.
This can prove to be sort of a pro/con situation for the fans. On one hand, fans are guaranteed to have high-quality episodes by the time season three rolls in. On the other, they have to put on with the wait until 2017 to watch the continuing adventures of Rick and Morty.
Fans have been speculating a lot about what's to come in the next season. Harmon has said that this time, they will revisit some of the material they had from the first season, which can lead to a ton of possibilities. Most fans think this season will see the return of Evil Morty (or to others: Eyepatch Morty), whereas it can even see the return of Morty's Gazorpian son, Morty Jr.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 is currently in development, and it can be expected to hit early 2017.
