"Rick and Morty" season 3 is happening, but as to when it does is still an unresolved question that has the show's fans clamoring for a more definitive answer. Updates are coming out in bits and pieces from the creative team behind the animated sci-fi comedy, which should be enough to debunk any cancelation rumors that may have emerged regarding the show.

The biggest issue that has put fans on tenterhooks is the fate of mad scientist Rick Sanchez. After his decision to surrender to the Galactic Federation put him in prison for an indefinite length of time, fans have wondered if "Rick and Morty" can possibly survive a third year run without the other half of its titular pair. But series creator Dan Harmon has already addressed this issue in an interview with Den of Geek where he said that things will be back to its usual stride "pretty quickly."

Harmon also said they are not planning on dwelling on an issue that carried over from the previous season and has also teased new and stranger storylines with more diversified themes, especially now that their creative writing team has just become gender-balanced.

In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, Harmon shared how adding women writers to the team has made them more open to talk about female characters Summer and Beth without worrying they might be hitting off the mark. The change has also led to a more equal exploration of the show's characters, and could even bring fans a more interesting spin to the Smith matriarch Beth in season 3.

It has also previously been revealed that episode one of the upcoming season has already been completed, and one writer, Erica Rosbe, has even claimed that they have already finished writing all 14 episodes of the third season and the animation process has already begun. This has made fans hopeful that new episodes of "Rick and Morty" could still come before the year ends.

Although no official confirmation has been made yet, the sci-fi animation is rumored to return to the small screen on Friday, Dec. 2, to allegedly complete a four-episode run before 2016 ends.
