Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime release date, specs news 2016: Device lands in India; specs include 5.5-inch display, 13-MP camera, fingerprint scanner

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has finally landed in India. After months of speculation, it's now official and it came alongside its smaller sibling, the Galaxy J5 Prime.

According to reports, Samsung's latest J model is an upgraded version of the Galaxy J7 (2016), which was released earlier this year. Both devices appear similar in physical aspect but the Prime's other specs and features are notably better.

As detailed by Android Authority, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is now packed with an enhanced display. The old model only carried an HD display but with the Prime version, it comes with a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for screen protection.

Under the hood, one finds a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM, which is an upgrade to the 2 GB of RAM. Its native storage space is 16 GB which can be further expanded via microSD card up to 256 GB.

In terms of camera specs, a report noted that the device still sports the same 13-MP rear-facing camera with an f/1.9 aperture and LED flash. But while the primary camera remains the same, the secondary has been given a bump up. The Galaxy J7 now carries an 8-MP front camera with an f/1.9 aperture. Its predecessor only came with a 5-MP selfie snapper.

Moreover, the device runs on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. A fingerprint scanner has also been added for more advanced security. Giving the device its power is a removable Li-On 3,300 mAh battery. Those who constantly use their smartphones can make use of the S Power Planning feature, which is a reserve battery technology for when the battery is running low.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is priced at INR 18,790 or $280 and is available in black and gold. The device is also now available for purchase in Samsung's online store.
