Samsung Galaxy Note 7 release date, specs news 2016: Curved screen, 12MP camera, iris scanner, 3,500mAh battery

Samsung's newest flagship device Galaxy Note 7 has finally been unveiled and fans are desperate to get their hands on it. Following the Galaxy Note 5 and skipping the Note 6 moniker, the device is packed with specs and features that are worth around $850 outright on major carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile.

The Galaxy Note 7 is now available for pre-order in the United States. It is noted to be equipped with a 5.7-inch curved screen with 1440 by 2560 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It also comes with an enhanced model of the S Pen stylus.

The stylus is more accurate and more sensitive due to its 0.7mm tip. It is even water-resistant just like the phone body.

The phone body has an IP68 rating. This means that the device is both dustproof and waterproof up to 1.5 meters under fresh water for up to 30 minutes.

Reports also detailed that the device comes in three colors including Black Onyx, Blue Coral ,and Silver Titanium. It features a dual-lens 12-megapixel rear camera with f1.7 aperture and a five-megapixel front camera. It is also packed with an iris scanner which can unlock the phone by just scanning the eyes of the owner. Registration is said to be around 30 seconds while unlocking will only take a couple of seconds.

In terms of battery capacity, the device gets power from its non-removable 3,500mAh battery. It has a fast charging feature via the USB-C port. Reports also claim that the device's battery can be charge up to 50 percent in just 10 minutes.

In the United Kingdom version, 4 GB of RAM paired with an octa-core 2.3GHz Exynos 8890 processor can be found under the hood. Meanwhile, U.S. versions get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

The Galaxy Note 7 also runs with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has a 64 GB built-in storage capacity. Moreover, the handset also features a fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, heart rate meter, SpO2, gyro, compass, barometer, S-Voice natural language commands and dictation, Samsung Pay, and so much more.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to be released on Aug. 19.
