Samsung Galaxy Note 7 release date, specs news: Leak hints iris scanner for phablet

Samsung is making sure that the Galaxy Note 7 will be jam-packed with new and exciting features. It so happens that one of these features is an iris scanner.
This was uncovered in a new screenshot shared by PriceRaja extracted from the Samsung's Galaxy Beta Program. It showed the security settings on what is believed is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
When translated (they were in Korean and Chinese), it is revealed that users will be offered the option to "use iris" in unlocking the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, on top of the usual fingerprint and PIN alternatives.
This leak, although its authenticity is still unconfirmed, is just another piece of evidence that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will indeed boast the next level of mobile security.
In the past, Indian import site Zauba listed the arrival of 200 units of "iris cam" intended to be used for an unspecified Samsung unit. The leak suggests that this mystery device may actually be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
In this day and age, premium devices still use fingerprint scanners as their primary mobile security. If the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is really getting an iris scanner, it will be one of the few out there to sport such, putting it way ahead of its competition.
With an iris scanner, the device should be far more secure as it will practically use the user's eyeball to access the phone. It is also touted to be 1,000 times more accurate than fingerprint scanning.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which is believed to be one of Samsung's most ambitious flagships yet, will be the perfect device to carry the iris scanner as well. After all, it will reportedly boast an insane set of specs.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 successor is rumored to come with a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and will be powered by the next-gen Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 823. It is also rumored to provide an eye-popping 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. On top of all that, it will be dust and water-resistant.
In related news, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's name was leaked in a purported promotional image for the device. For months, the phablet was dubbed the Galaxy Note 6, but Samsung is allegedly changing it to Note 7, so that its moniker will be in line with the S family.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to be official this August.
