'Scandal' season 6 premiere date, spoilers: 'Glee' alum Jessalyn Gilsig replaces Joelle Carter

Fans should expect some changes to happen in the sixth season of "Scandal" season 6 as reports revealed that the show has recast Jake's (Scott Foley) wife, Vanessa Moss.

Vanessa debuted at the end of season 5 and was played by actress Joelle Carter. However, she will reportedly need to let go of the role due other commitments. Carter is part of NBC's legal drama "Chicago Justice" wherein she will play investigator Lori Nagle.

This conflict of schedule has forced "Scandal" to recast the character, and the actress they have chosen is "Glee" alum Jessalyn Gilsig. She will take on the role of Vanessa when the series returns midseason. And since the production took an effort to really settle the character, it is implying that Vanessa will have a big role in the upcoming season.

Gilsig shared her excitement over her new role via her Twitter account. She wrote, "Been very excited to share this! Glad Joelle is onto something exciting and happy to step in."

For those who have been waiting for the show, a little patience will be required as the drama series' air date has been pushed back in order to give lead star Kerry Washington some time to give birth to her second child. It's also said that season 6 will be shorter due to the actress' unexpected pregnancy.

Nonetheless, fans can still expect big things to come in the sixth installment of the show. ABC President Channing Dungey said during the Television Critics Association's press tour that the upcoming season of the series will be a "return to form."

Dungey explained that despite the drop in viewers in season 5, they have nothing to worry since long-running shows always get a bit of shaking once in a while. He also said that he has already read the script for the upcoming season, and he finds it great.

"Scandal" season 6 will premiere sometime in 2017.
