'Scream' season 3 renewed or canceled news: No renewal announcement yet; Two-hour Halloween special to air in October

The MTV slasher series, "Scream," just closed its season 2 with major cliffhangers, and fans who have been following the show since the beginning are begging for more. They want more answers, and they're clamoring for a new season. Unfortunately, "Scream" season 3 has not been announced yet.

According to reports, the third installment of the show is currently hanging by a thread. The network has not confirmed a renewal yet, and fans are already getting jumpy with the thought that the series will end with so many unanswered questions.

MTV has been noticeably quiet when it comes to a third season renewal. Apparently, it's noted that the show declined in viewers. As detailed in a report, season 1 garnered an average of 0.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 750,000 viewers while season 2 averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 380,000 viewers.

The ratings may have been a bit of a flop but reports say that the show still has a dedicated fanbase who wants to save the show. As for now, the fate of "Scream" season 3 is hazy, and the only thing that fans are holding on to now is the announced 2-hour Halloween "Scream" special that will air this coming October.

It was revealed after the "Scream After Dark" episode which featured behind-the-scenes coverage with the cast members. The show's official Twitter account also released a sneak peek video for the special. And though it didn't give out a lot of details of what it will be about, TVLine said that it will bring answers to all the questions left in the season 2 finale.

For those who are not in the loop yet, "Scream" season 2 finale finally revealed who the killer is. It was Emma's (Willa Fitzgerald) boyfriend Kieran (Amadeus Serafini). He was brought to prison, but the mystery didn't end there when a caller told Kieran, "Who told you you could wear my mask?"

Fans should stay tuned for more updates on "Scream" season 3 and whether MTV will renew the horror-thriller or not.
