'Shadowhunters' season 2 air date, spoilers: EP teases more Malec scenes in upcoming season

Malec fans are in for a treat when "Shadowhunters" returns for its second season.
The relationship between the young shadowhunter Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) and the centuries old warlock Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) came too fast too soon and did not seem to have allowed the foundational build up accorded to it by the source material, Cassandra Clare's best-selling series, "The Mortal Instruments." This prompted fans to worry about the pair's stability going into the hit show's sophomore run.
Fondly referred to as Malec, the Magnus-Alec romance is one of the most beloved story arcs in the Shadowhunter chronicles. This is something that the producers and writers of the show are very aware of have had no problems at all incorporating into the show.
Enstarz recently cited a couple of tweets by newly appointed executive producer Todd Slavkin that hinted on more Malec developments in "Shadwohunters" season 2. Slavkin stated that they were "deeply invested" in the pair and that fans can expect many "great moments" between Magnus and Alec. Fans may even see the two of them go out on their first date.
In a steadily diversifying pop culture, LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) relationships have been carving its niche on the small screen with overwhelming support from fans and Malec is no exception.
Although Alec's daring coming-out kiss with Magnus happened a little earlier in the series' timeline and in a different setting than from the third book, "City of Glass," Malec's first on-screen kiss in the penultimate season 1 episode so impressed fans that GIFs and Vine clips flooded the internet merely minutes after the jaw-dropping scene was aired.
Michael Reisz, executive producer of Shadowhunters and writer of the fan-favorite season 1 episode, "Malec," told Paste last April that he had developed a deep bond with and understanding of the importance of Magnus and Alec's relationship earlier on in the show's developmental stages.
"We wanted to let the fans know we hear them, we think about them, and we care just as much about the relationship as they do," Reisz said. He went on to add that Alec coming out in the first season of "Shadowhunters" was a natural progression of where the TV adaptation was headed with regards to Magnus and Alec's individual lives and their potential as a couple.
There are definitely more things in store for Malec when "Shadowhunters" returns for a 20-episode second season in 2017.
