'Star Wars: Episode 8' release date, plot spoilers: New romance brewing in the galaxy far, far away

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" lead star John Boyega has opened up about a possible romance between his character—the stormtrooper turned Resistance hero Finn— and Force-sensitive scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) in "Star Wars: Episode 8."
"Finn and Rey – they're just friends. Finn is a stormtrooper, so he doesn't really know what's going on. So the romance thing is something that's going to be interesting in the next installment," Boyega told Variety.
"It's not going to go the way you think it's going to go," the actor further teased. At this point, despite Boyega teasing a possible romance, it is still tough to predict how it will play out in "Star Wars: Episode 8."
In "The Force Awakens," Finn showed great concern for Rey. When he found out she was captured by the First Order commandeered by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), he abandoned plans of leaving to save her.
This showed that Finn really has so much love and care for Rey. However, it remains a mystery if this will ever bloom into a romance. If "Star Wars: Episode 8" takes this direction, it definitely had the right things set up in the previous film.
Prior to Boyega's revelation, fans also noticed that Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron and Finn may also be a couple in the future. Isaac hinted the possibility last year, telling Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen Show" that it is a "very subtle romance."
"You have to watch it a few times to see the little hints," the actor said. Boyega, on the other hand, told Radio Times last February that it was more of a "bromance" than a full-on romantic connection.
But since "Star Wars" has always been full of surprises (something Boyega is aware of), starting with Darth Vader being the father of his mortal enemy Luke Skywalker, anything could happen.
Meanwhile, Boyega also teased that "Star Wars: Episode 8" will be "bigger" and "darker." He added that director Rian Johnson's take on the film will be different and is ultimately "crazy" in terms of scale.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" hits the big screen on Dec. 15, 2017.
