'Star Wars Episode VIII' plot rumors: Kelly Marie Tran's character - more details revealed
More details were revealed about the character that Kelly Marie Tran will play in the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VIII." She will reportedly portray an information broker who gives First Order secrets to Finn (John Boyega).
The news comes from an insider that the person behind I Was Raised To Do One Thing is connected with, and it even gives a description of a scene between Tran and Boyega. The two will apparently meet in a fancy bar, and Tran will apparently flirt a little with Finn before they try to escape incoming stormtroopers by sneaking out the back door.
The report also says that Tran doesn't have much of a presence on set, so her role could be very minor. The insider guesses that she will probably have more screentime than Max Von Sydow ( who portrays Lor San Tekka) but not as much as Oscar Issac ( who portrays Poe Dameron).
The insider also claims that there will be no romance between the characters of Boyega and Tran. Some fans have also speculated that there may be room for romance between Finn and Rey (Daisy Ridley), but Boyega has also said, in an interview with Variety, that the two will only remain friends (though Finn did ask Rey if she had a boyfriend in the previous movie). He said, "I mean, we didn't establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way. Daisy and I, we're friends. Finn and Rey — they're just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn't really know what's going on. So the romance thing is something that's going to be interesting in the next installment. It's not going to go the way you think it's going to go."
Tran is virtually an unknown actress, much like Boyega and Ridley, and it's nice to see that the new "Star Wars" universe is getting more and more diverse as the movies come out. It still has its A-List actors, though, with Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern joining the cast.
"Star Wars Episode VIII" comes out December next year.
