"Star Wars: Rogue One" release date news: Gets a new TV spot; new trailer to arrive soon

A new TV spot for Gareth Edwards' "Star Wars: Rogue One" has been released, and though it doesn't really show off a lot of new footage from the film, there are reports that fans will be getting a new trailer for the movie soon.
According to the ComicBookMovie website, fans can expect a new trailer for "Rogue One" to hit in a couple of weeks. During the Star Wars Celebration in London last month, fans were expecting to get a new trailer for the movie, but instead they were treated to a sizzle reel — a behind the scenes look at the making of the movie and the thought that went into it. It was very similar to the reel of "The Force Awakens," and though some fans were incredibly happy with the first-hand look, some were still left disappointed that a new trailer was not released.
They shouldn't stay disappointed though, as there is news that the trailer they were hoping for will be coming soon. What's more is that the movie is less than half a year away, which is a much shorter wait compared to the likes of "Justice League" and "Wonder Woman."
"Rogue One" will follow the story of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) as she joins the Rebel Alliance to get the plans for the Empire's new superweapon, the Death Star. With her during the mission are Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen), Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang), and Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed). Jyn will also get help from Cassian's unique droid, K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).
The Rebellion will be going head-to-head with the Empire's Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), an imperial who seeks to rival Darth Vader's position and commands an elite squadron of stormtroopers called Death Troopers. Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) himself is returning to fight the rebellion for his Emperor.
"Star Wars: Rogue One" will be hitting theaters this coming Dec. 16, 2016.
