After hitting a new record as the longest running-series in both The CW and Warner Bros. Television history, "Supernatural" is eyeing yet another milestone with a potential 300th episode.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, actor Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) likened the objective to a marathon, where he always kept his sights focused on the next mile. "And 300's a good number to work for," he added.

Fellow actor Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) explained that if they failed to reach the 300th episode mark, he and Ackles would both be very upset. However, if they were unable to do so, they would both feel that it's time to say goodbye. "We certainly do not take it for granted that we're going to make it to 300," he said.

In line with this, executive producer Robert Singer shared that wanting to have an estimated end goal to aim for was something he had talked about with Ackles. "I think it would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale," he said.

The fan-favorite series has already hit 241 episodes in 11 seasons, and according to The CW president Mark Pedowitz via TV Line, the show's record-breaking 12th season will consist of 22 episodes. This will bring the show's total episodes to 263, just 37 episodes shy of 300. If and when "Supernatural" gets renewed for a 24-episode 13th season, the subsequent 14th installment could be shortened, with its 13th marking the 300th episode landmark.

Season 14 is still a long way to go but given the show's strong following, this will not be impossible for "Supernatural," especially after it recently beat 63 other series in Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV cover battle. Ackles took to Instagram to share the cover for the upcoming fall issue of the said magazine.

The cover features him and Padalecki lying on the hood of Baby, the ever reliable 1967 Chevy Impala that has seen them through the best and worst of times. Ackles captioned the image, "A Squirrel and a Moose in the name...clever EW. Clever," referring to the moose and the squirrel in the small e's in the magazine's name. This is an homage to the nicknames that the sassy demon Crowley (Mark Sheppard) has given Sam and Dean respectively. The magazine will feature scoops from the set of "Supernatural" along with information on 136 other series.

Additionally, Ackles and Padalecki will be at the EW PopFest on Saturday, Oct. 29 to talk about their experiences in the past 11 seasons, as well as share some teasers for the upcoming 12th season. More information and ticket details can be found at the official EW PopFest site.

"Supernatural" season 12 kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
