'Supernatural' season 12 release date, plot news: Big changes in new season

"Supernatural" gets to live another whole season, but for its upcoming twelfth ride, showrunner Jeremy Carver will no longer be on board and will be replaced by two new ones.

Having served as the third showrunner in "Supernatural," Carver will be leaving the showrunning duties to the tandem of Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.

Fans won't have to worry because Carver's successors taking over in "Supernatural" season 12 know an awful lot about Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) adventures.

Singer is actually an executive producer and director since the very beginning of "Supernatural." He occasionally writes episodes as well. Dabb started as a writer and story editor in season 4 and has moved up to co-executive producer.

Fans can bet that "Supernatural" season 12 is still in good hands. Carver has served as the showrunner for the show since season 8. He was preceded by Sera Gamble, who worked on seasons 6 and 7.

Before these two was Eric Kapke, who was the showrunner of the first season of "Supernatural" down to the fifth one. This is the third time that "Supernatural" is shaking things up off-screen.

Carver is leaving the post to give his full attention to "Frequency," a whole new series coming to The CW, which is also the home of "Supernatural." He will write the pilot and will serve as an executive producer.

Cinema Blend believes that with two people now at the helm instead of one, "Supernatural" season 12 may be different. After all, the show will have to come up with something fresh every season, since it has been running for more than a decade now.

"Supernatural" season 11 is nearing the finish line with only one episode left before the finale. In the penultimate episode of the season titled "We Happy Few," Chuck (Rob Benedict) attempts to bring together heaven and hell to stop Amara (Emily Swallow) from destroying his most precious creations.

The episode will air on Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
