'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers news 2016: Show going back to its roots; Sam and Dean's mother to appear

Fantasy horror television series "Supernatural" may be on a break right now but it won't be long until it returns to the small screen for its season 12. The show has gone a long way already and fans who have followed it faithfully can attest how much it has grown.

But according to Nerdist, there's a chance that the series will be taking some steps backward. The publication spoke to cast member Misha Collins, who teased little details about season 12 and his character Castiel. The actor said the upcoming season will be going back to its roots.

"Season 12 is actually going to feel like we're getting back to the show's roots," Collins said. "It's going to feel a lot like earlier seasons of the show, which I'm excited about. And the same really goes for my character in particular," he said.

He then hinted that Castiel may get his "mojo back" in season 12. Fans may recall that in the previous seasons, Castiel had a "badass, warrior-quality," but it changed up as the seasons moved forward. However, there's a chance that it will be back and Castiel will bring something new to the table.

Spoilers also suggest that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) mother, Mary (Samantha Smith) will be coming back into the two brothers' lives. Yet, their reunion won't be a breeze as it's expected that there will be some issues that will surface. Rumors also have it that Mary will try to help her sons go up against the Men of Letters. But will they be successful? Will she be able to help them at such a crucial moment?

Meanwhile, reports revealed that season 12 of "Supernatural" will not be the last one. It's still far away from airing its final season. It's even said that The CW president Mark Pedowitz wants the show to run longer.

"Supernatural" season 12 will premiere on Oct. 13 on The CW.
