'Switched at Birth' season 5 news, spoilers: Creator reveals season 5 song; Vanessa Marano teases lots of 'returning storylines'

While "Switched at Birth" season 5 won't be here for at least six more months, fans of the Peabody Award-winning series have been getting their "Switched at Birth" fix from the various social media announcements made by its creator, Lizzy Weiss, and its stars.

Earlier this month, Weiss revealed via Twitter that the song "Fight On" by singer/songwriter Natalie Taylor will play in a "big moment" in the upcoming season 5 and that she hasn't stopped listening to the song since.

In April, Weiss posted a letter addressed to the many fans of the popular Freeform teen/family drama, letting them know that the cast and crew of "Switched at Birth" had finished filming the series. Weiss wrote that the entire cast, the crew, the writing staff, and everyone's families came by with cards, flowers, wine, and gifts to celebrate the conclusion of the series.

"There may be shows that had bigger budgets or higher ratings, but there is no show with more love and warmth and camaraderie behind the cameras than this one," Weiss wrote.

"Switched at Birth" was cancelled earlier this year. In March, Weiss shared more bad news, telling fans that season 5 will not be airing until 2017, which means that the show will have been off the air for more than a year.

In March, "Switched at Birth" star Vanessa Marano, who plays Bay Kennish, told Just Jared about what fans can expect when the fifth season finally airs.

"This entire season has a lot of returning storylines actually," she said. "We left a lot of loose ends open last season so now we're tying everything together. There's a lot of... it's very much like a new year because so much time has passed and the girls are at these new places in their lives."

The upcoming "Switched at Birth" season 5 will include the show's milestone 100th episode. The new season will consist of 10 episodes and will conclude with a special 90-minute finale.

Freeform has not announced the official release date for "Switched at Birth" season 5.
