American superhero television series "The Flash" has closed its second season already and as usual, it left fans with a major cliffhanger.

"The Flash" season 2, episode 23 ended with Flash/Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) running back in time to save his mother Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison) from getting killed by the Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher). Because of his actions, major changes in the timeline are expected.

According to Comicbook.com, some rumors started swirling around saying that season 3 of "The Flash" may be adapting the five-issue miniseries "Flashpoint" storyline. Those who followed the superhero's life in comic books know what this storyline is all about.

This was when Barry suddenly woke up in an alternate timeline. Unfortunately, it's no happy era as it's filled with dark, twisted versions of the heroes and villains that he knows. Barry then went on a mission to find out what the cause of the terrible future was and soon discovered what altered the past. Other reports stated that there's also the possibility of Barry being just a mere mortal because he has no power.

Zap2it detailed that the comic included Justice League characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Cyborg and many more. If the series decides to push through with "Flashpoint," fans can expect to catch these heroes in the third installment. There is no official word yet on what will happen in "The Flash" season 3 but Comic Book Movie noted that cast member Carlos Valdes, who plays as Cisco Ramon/Vibe, gave some hints during a panel at MegaCon.

"I think there's every chance of a Flashpoint paradox," stated Valdes. "I can say, without a doubt, wherever we go from here, it's going to be unique and it's going to be different," he added.

Moreover, Entertainment Weekly reported that Tom Cavanagh has already confirmed to return to the show as a series regular. His role is not yet known since his previous character, Harisson Wells, ended up in demise. He could still be alive though if "Flashpoint" will be followed since the original Wells may show up in the next season.

Fans will have to stay tuned for more updates. "The Flash" season 3 will return on CW sometime this fall.
