'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers, plot news: More trouble brewing for the USS Nathan James

In the next episode of "The Last Ship" titled "In the Dark," the crew of the USS Nathan James will have to deal with another possible threat right after the last.

Reports say that in the next episode, Chandler (Eric Dane), after saving his friend Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin), will have to face the threat of Japanese pirate leader Takehaya (Hiroyuki Sanada). In a promo clip for the show, Takehaya seems to be tied down to a chair as he makes threats to Chandler. Chandler tells him that he will not be shown mercy when they reach the U.S., but Takehaya then says that when they arrive in the country, everyone will have died.

The upcoming episode will also see the United States president Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses) facing a petition requesting him to step down from his position as head of state. A secret will be revealed in St. Louis which will escalate the situation.

The episode will also touch on the subject of Dr. Scott (Rhona Mitra) and her death. After being shot by an Immune in season 2, the doctor's fate was left ambiguous. The beginning of season 3 confirmed that the doctor had died, right after she had perfected the cure.

Eric Dane spoke about the character's death in his interview with TV Line, in which he called the tragedy "bittersweet."

"She did a tremendous job. In two short seasons she left an indelible impression on the audience, and her contributions were colossal as far as the story goes," Dane said. "But it was the next logical step, I think, given the circumstances. That when everything is seemingly perfect and back to normal, 'life shows up again.'"
