"The Originals" season 4 won't air this year. Following the move of the CBS comic book adaptation "Supergirl" to The CW as well as several new shows taking up the fall slate, the series had to be moved midseason.

While many fans think it's a bad thing as they have to wait for next year for "The Originals" season 4, executive producer Julie Plec likes to look at the bright side of the situation.

"I don't mind midseason in theory. I mind not having an airdate, and I mind that we'll be done filming before we know if we're picked up for another season, but other than that, a midseason order is a guarantee of higher quality," Plec said on her blog post via Entertainment Weekly of "The Originals" going midseason.

"Why? Because you have TIME. Extra time to write because you're not shooting 22. Extra time to think. Time to make sure each episode is excellent. Time to fix it if it isn't," Plec continued, adding that it is a luxury she does not plan on wasting.

"The Originals" season 4 will air January at the earliest. There's no specific date for its return, but fans are guaranteed to wait longer than they do for previous seasons.

Plec believes that the midseason premiere of "The Originals" season 4 will also allow viewers who have been wanting to get into the series to catch up in time for the new season.

Spoiler Alert! The following contains spoilers from the season 3 finale of "The Originals" season 3.

"The Originals" season 3 ended with an episode full of shocks and revelations. The prophecy, despite the Mikaelson family's best efforts to prevent it, ultimately came to pass.

Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) made Klaus (Joseph Morgan) answer to his myriad sins by, thanks to Rebekah's (Claire Holt) convincing, being impaled by Papa Tunde's blade that brought him piercing pain—a punishment far worse than death.

Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) left New Orleans with baby Hope in a bid to find Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Freya (Riley Voiles), Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) and Rebekah a cure.

On the other hand, Klaus may have to rely on himself to escape, although showrunner Michael Narducci hinted to TV Guide that someone might help him in "The Originals" season 4.

He also teased to TV Line that although Marcel won't be a big bad in "The Originals" season 4, he might be on his way to becoming an enemy of the Mikaelsons forever.
