"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is rumored to be the last run of the supernatural drama. In the past, it was hinted several times that the upcoming season will be concluding the saga.

Since it will be the last for Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder, who play main characters Bonnie and Damon respectively, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 may finally do it for the whole show.

If it will be, "The Vampire Diaries" will be doubling on the badness and the darkness in closing the story. That's according to Paul Wesley, who plays the role of Stefan in the series.

The actor told TV Guide that the events in the "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 finale will make season 8 "really dark, really twisted and really fun" and this will mostly be due to Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

In the last season, the two went inside the Armory vault to save Bonnie. Contained by this place is an unknown evil of formidable force that will ultimately unshackle Damon and Enzo from their humanity.

"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec said that the two men might "never be the same" again. To make it worse, Bonnie will be forced to sit through the whole thing, because she has no powers that could reverse the effects. This will surely allow for more violence and carnage as Enzo and Damon go on a killing spree.

If "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will also be the last season, it might also feature Elena (Nina Dobrev) again. When the actress made headlines about her exit, Plec said that Dobrev's possible return will be saved for the final season.

"It's what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it's what I've got in my head," Plec told TV Line for her original plan to bring back Elena. However, she recognizes that things may change as time goes by.

Although Dobrev expressed interest to return, Plec believes that the actress is keener on doing other things and taking the next step in her career. "So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end," Plec said.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is expected to premiere this fall.
