'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Another character meets demise, familiar face returns?

A major character is set to bite the dust in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, according to the latest reports.

It is being said that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) or Bonnie (Kat Graham) will be six feet under by the end of the upcoming season.

According to Hall of Fame Magazine, Damon might meet a bloody fate when the show returns. At the moment, the older Salvatore is out for blood and so is Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

Although it is unclear if this will get him killed, Inquisitr believes that Damon's too powerful and enraged right now to be killed and that he will be doing the killing instead in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

It is being speculated that in the next season of the vampire drama, Damon will be taking a lot of lives including that of his best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham).

This will not only give the character a send-off since Graham is set to leave the show after "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, it will also allow Elena (Nina Dobrev) to return.

Elena and Bonnie's life are entwined by a curse. As long as Bonnie is alive, Elena will be in deep sleep. If the former ends up dying in the new season, the latter will wake up.

Dobrev has long expressed her interest to come back to the show in the finale. Since it is rumored for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 to be the show's last (Somerhalder is also leaving), her return will be likely.

Executive producer Julie Plec believes that this is still the plan, although warns that things may change. Fans are excited to Elena find her way back to Mystic Falls.

Last season's storyline of "The Vampire Diaries" has Elena involved. Gilbert even recorded voice over for her part in the season 7 finale. It will be amazing to see her in the flesh once again.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is expected to premiere this fall. The synopsis for it is as follows:

The triangle of Stefan, Caroline and Alaric will team up with Bonnie in Season 8 to search for the two most important men in her life.
