'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Julie Plec hopes Nina Dobrev will keep promise to return

Nina Dobrev is expected to appear in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 to keep her promise to return in the final season of the hit supernatural drama.
When the actress left the series after season 7, she made a promise with executive producer Julie Plec to return to the show and be a part of the ending.
When asked by TVLine during the San Diego Comic-Con about Dobrev's possible return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, which was announced as the final season for the series, Plec said that she hopes Dobrev will keep her promise.
"Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I'd like to see come to life," Plec said.
During the show's SDCC panel, the executive producer also stated that she hopes Dobrev will return as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, as what she promised.
She said that it would be a real dream to bring her back not only to give "The Vampire Diaries" a proper send-off but also to make fans, who have been waiting for her return, happy.
"All I can say, because there is nothing written in stone, but Nina made me a promise when she left that she would come back and be part of the goodbye, and I intend on holding her to that, and I'm sure she intends on living up to it as well," Plec said via BuddyTV.
"We just have to figure it out: the how, the when, the what. But it would be a real tragedy if we couldn't bring that story back around full-circle," she continued.
Plec also intends to bring back to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 other characters who have been absent from the show. The cast member suggested Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney) and Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre).
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on Friday, Oct. 21 on The CW.
