'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers, plot news: New cast member added, Nina Dobrev might not return

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 welcomes a strange new resident in Mystic Falls by the name Georgie, who will be played by Allison Scagliotti of "Stitchers."

Georgie is an occult reach intern "driven by a horrific darkness in her own past," as per TVLine. From the description of the character, she has some deep secrets waiting to be discovered.

It was also teased that the "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 newbie "channels her existential anxieties into a new field of study that will force her to confront her deepest fears."

It is a mystery for now how she will affect the lives of Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and the others or if she will be a friend or a foe.

Fans will see Georgie as early as the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. She will not be a regular and will simply be a recurring character.

Apart from Scagliotti, it is also being reported that former cast member Nina Dobrev will be back in the upcoming season. However, unlike the former's inclusion, the latter's return is uncertain.

With Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie, and Somerhalder leaving the series, some believe that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 might be the show's last.

Dobrev has said that she is willing to return to the show on its last season. However, Zap2it believes that whether or not the upcoming season will wrap up the whole show, she might not be able to return.

The actress has snagged a role in "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," which the abovementioned site believes will take up her schedule since more films are expected to be released from the franchise.

Dobrev is currently busy promoting the film all while filming the remake of the 1990 horror movie "Flatliners." With that said, her schedule might be too full to squeeze in an appearance on "The Vampire Diaries."

Despite this, it appears that her promise still stands about returning by the end of the show. For now, it is unknown when that will be.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 on The CW.
