'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers, plot news: Villain for show's presumed final season preys on Damon and Enzo

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 introduces a new big bad who has the ability to take away the humanity of individuals in its proximity. Its latest victims are Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey).
"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec is keeping mum about what or who this Armory monster is and simply wants fans to wait for the new season to arrive to learn the villain's identity.
"This is the first time we've done this little story trick where we're actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season," Plec told Yahoo TV of the baddie taking center stage in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
"What could it be that's been around for thousands of years? We didn't see it, but it has some creepy a— monster hands, and it has the ability to get inside your head and strip away everything good about you. There's a nice mystery taking us into next season about what exactly this creature is," she teased.
This new antagonist is already has a name in the writers' room, but Plec would like to keep it a surprise until "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres.
Although the truth of what the baddie really is remains under wraps, fans can bet that it will be a big challenge to take it down. The fact that it is in control of Damon and Enzo is already something to worry about.
This will be especially challenging for Bonnie (Kat Graham), who not only lost the two most important men in her life but also lost her magic. In "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, she won't be able to help get the duo back to normal.
Meanwhile, the upcoming season will be Graham's last turn in the vampire drama. The same goes for Somerhalder. This fuelled rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the final season of the series although nothing is set in stone yet.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres this fall.
