'Thor Ragnarok' release date, movie news 2016: Chris Hemsworth's new haircut revealed

Rumors saying that the God of Thunder will be banished and have his golden locks cropped short in the upcoming Marvel movie, "Thor: Ragnarok," seem to have been confirmed by Mark Ruffalo's Instagram posts.

According to Geek Tyrant, the concept art of "The Unworthy Thor" had been revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con 2016, and it shows the warrior of Asgard with shorter hair and a different look for his armor. The movie is said to follow Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as he is banished from Asgard by his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) who is disguised as their father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). The movie will have Thor brought to a random planet with a gladiator-type arena, and there he will supposedly have his head shaved. His mighty hammer, Mjolnir, was also said to have been destroyed before he was banished.

The movie will also follow plotlines from the "Planet Hulk" arc in the comics, and fans will most likely meet the Hulk during the gladiator match in the movie. In "Planet Hulk," the Hulk is sent away from Earth and lands on a distant planet only to rise up the ranks and rule it after a barrage of gladiatorial victories. The last time that viewers got to see the Hulk was in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and where he might've ended up was a mystery. Perhaps the movie will explain how Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) found himself on the distant planet.

Ruffalo has also recently wrapped up all of his scenes in the movie, so the post-production phase for "Thor: Ragnarok" could be starting pretty soon.

"Thor: Ragnarok" is the third film in the "Thor" franchise and is directed by the Kiwi director Taika Waititi. The movie is set to premiere on Nov. 3, 2017.
