'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 spoilers: New hero to be introduced?

Though it has been more than a year since "Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 ended, Studio Pierrot is still yet to announce the release date for its season 3.
The third season of "Tokyo Ghoul," the anime adaptation of a popular Japanese manga of the same name, was confirmed in summer 2015. However, since the announcement, no further details about the highly anticipated third season have been released. Nonetheless, fans have been theorizing that the lack of updates could only mean that season 3 is well on its way and that the anime's creators are only keeping the new season under wraps to keep fans in a state of suspense.
On top of that, there are also rumors that the new season will put the spotlight on a new character. According to Vine Report, while the first and second seasons of "Tokyo Ghoul" focused on Ken Kaneki's story, the third season will have Touka Kirishima at its center.
"Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is said to follow Touka, who was previously introduced as Ken's training partner, as she attempts to navigate college life. Choosing which university to attend will be her first challenge.
According to rumors, the third season could also show Touka and Ken at odds. While Touka was the one who helped Ken live among different ghouls when he was still in his half-ghoul form, Touka, who is actually a ghoul, is said to actually hate Ken.
According to another report, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will follow Ken as he is abducted by a terrorist group and becomes a ghoul investigator.
"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," a "Tokyo Ghoul" writer told Anime Maru last year. "We hope to remain as faithful as possible to the source material, although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."
The "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 release date is yet to be announced.
