'Vampire Diaries' season 8 release date, plot spoilers news: Elena returns as a new villain?

Actress Nina Dobrev is expected to return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 not as her beloved character Elena, but in a completely new character.
Rumor has it that she will play the role of new baddie Sybil, who TVLine describes as "an immortal who uses her immeasurable power and influence to control other people."
She also manipulates them into sick games simply for the sake of "her own amusement and glorification." Sybil will reportedly make Damon (Ian Somerhalder) evil.
Speculations have it that Sybil might disguise herself as Elena in order to seduce Damon and turn him another one of the killers she has created.
According to BuddyTV, it will make perfect sense to bring Dobrev back in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. The idea will allow Elena to return without getting into the complications of her storyline with Bonnie (Kat Graham).
Plus, it will also make fans who have been waiting for Dobrev's return to Mystic Falls happy and it does not require much to mess with in terms of storytelling.
Dobrev has already said that she will return in the final season of "The Vampire Diaries." The possibility that season 8 will be the last also makes it likely that the star will be back.
There have been a lot of rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the vampire drama's last season with Graham leaving the series as well as Somerhalder.
The show's fate beyond "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is yet to be determined, but Dobrev is willing to be part of the show's conclusion.
Whether or not this season will be last remains a mystery for now. New details about the upcoming season will be revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con.
There, the cast and producers will be answering questions from fans as well as reveal a preview of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
