'Vampire Diaries' season 8 release date, spoilers: Bonnie dies, Elena wakes up?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the ultimate send-off for Bonnie (Kat Graham). Fans can't help wondering how she will be written off and what it means for her connection with Elena (Nina Dobrev).

Executive producer Julie Plec has once said that Dobrev is willing to return in the final season of the series. Interestingly, it is being rumored that the upcoming season will be the vampire drama's last.

With that said, there are now rumors that Bonnie might be killed off in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, allowing Elena to wake up from the deep sleep she was cursed in.

However, Plec is determined to give Bonnie a proper send-off, and so with Elena being brought back in the minds of many, "The Vampire Diaries" EP simply wants Bonnie to be honored as she should.

"Now it's my challenge and the writers' challenge to do right by that. We have a year to do it so I'm excited to come up with all the different ways that her character can say goodbye," Plec told Nerdist.

In "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, Bonnie will have a tough time knowing that Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) â€“ the two most important men in her life â€“ are on a killing spree.

To add insult to the injury, Bonnie lost her magic, which means she can't do anything to help them. Despite this, it appears that she will still try.

It remains a mystery where that will take her in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. Thankfully, her friends will be there to help her get Enzo and Damon back.

Meanwhile, apart from Graham, Somerhalder has also announced that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be his last year, further fueling rumors that the upcoming season will end the show as well.

At the moment, there's no update of a season 9 renewal yet, although according to Plec in the same Nerdist interview, Graham is also already looking beyond "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Although that does not equate to a renewal, it appears that Graham is figuring out how her exit will impact the upcoming season if there will be one.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 on The CW.
