'Wentworth' season 5 spoilers news: Bea Smith not coming back; Joan to replace her as top dog?
Australian prison drama series "Wentworth" won't be back until next year for its fifth season, but fans are already getting some heads up on what may take place next after the events of the season 4 finale.
As what many may remember, fan-favorite character Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) was killed off in the last episode when Joan "The Freak" Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) stabbed her to death with a screwdriver. Several were dismayed with the fate of Bea, though, since fans wanted the character to live and stay longer in the series just like what happened with Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson).
Allie survived a lethal hot shot of class A drugs and came back to life even after the doctors had pronounced her dead. But, as detailed in a report, Bea is as dead as her husband whom she killed. Not even a flashback will let her live.
Showrunner Jo Porter confirmed that Cormack's time in the show as Bea has ended, and fans will have to move on. But just like the followers of the show, it was also hard for the production team to let go of Cormack.
"It is always an incredibly difficult decision to say farewell to a much-loved and revered character like Bea Smith," Porter said. "Which is why this storyline has had such a huge impact on us all and we are sure fans will feel the same. This decision was particularly hard as it meant also saying goodbye to Danielle Cormack," she added.
Fans are clamoring for Bea's return, but network Foxtel isn't going to give in to fans' demand as they are following the plot of the "Wentworth" story. So now with Bea dead, many are wondering who is going to take over her place as the top dog.
According to a report, either Karen "Kaz" Proctor (Tammy Macintosh) or Joan will be taking the reign. They are both speculated to be the next in line, but many are rooting for Joan since she has more skills in killing while Kaz isn't really into taking away the life of another person.
Fans will just have to wait and see. "Wentworth" season 5 is slated to air in May 2017.
