'Winds of Winter' release date: 'Game of Thrones' novel expected to be released next year based on research

The long wait for "Winds of Winter" has made detectives out of fans as they try to figure out when the sixth volume of "A Song of Ice and Fire" will be released.
According to the latest reports, writer George R.R. Martin will change things up when it comes to unveiling his upcoming books.
It is being speculated that the bestselling author will surprise everyone at the upcoming Worldcon by launching "Winds of Winter" at the event, which Martin always makes sure to attend.
The event is scheduled to take place on Aug. 17 to 21, which means that Martin should have finished the book by now in order for him to bring it to the convention.
Winter is Coming believes that there's little to no chance of this ever happening so fans can simply expect another chapter from "Winds of Winter" to be unveiled there and nothing more.
However, according to abovementioned site, the only chance of "Winds of Winter" being revealed at Worldcon is if the publishers want to knock J.K Rowling off the top of this year's pre-sales list.
With legions of fans awaiting the arrival of "Winds of Winter," the moment it goes on presale will be riot. However, this is also the very reason why Martin can take time, as the success of the book if guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the people over at Wonkblog attempted to identify a possible release date for "Winds of Winter" based on Martin's writing speed in previous books and the time it took to churn out the first five novels.
The findings show that "Winds of Winter" may not be finished this year. The research also revealed that the final book in the series "A Dream of Spring" will take six years to be released.
With reports that both novels will be released simultaneously, it might take even longer as Martin will have to get the final book done as well.
With that said, there's still a long way to go before "Winds of Winter" arrives. This wait will be extra challenging, with nothing to distract fans from it since "Game of Thrones" season 7 is also delayed.
