'Winds of Winter' release date news 2016: Read the full text of new Aeron Greyjoy-centric sample chapter 'The Forsaken'

A "Winds of Winter" chapter about Aeron Greyjoy, titled "The Forsaken," can now be read in its entirety online.
The chapter, which bestselling author George R.R. Martin read out loud at a sci-fi convention last month, is the latest in a string of sample chapters that Martin has been doling out to fans as they await the publication of the twice-delayed "The Winds of Winter."
"The Winds of Winter" is the forthcoming sixth book in Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" epic fantasy series, on which HBO's "Game of Thrones" is based.
While "Game of Thrones" is but a few episodes away from its season 6 finale, Martin has yet to announce when "Winds of Winter" will be published. Avid fans have been waiting for the sixth installment since the fifth book, "A Dance With Dragons," was released in 2011. They had also expected the book to be released prior to the airing of the sixth season of "Game of Thrones."
But because Martin missed the publication deadline for "Winds of Winter," "Game of Thrones" season 6 deviated from its source material, continuing the story that had been based, in its first five seasons, on Martin's novels.
In February, the author announced that he will be putting aside other projects and focusing solely on "The Winds of Winter." In response to a comment on his online journal Not a Blog, Martin said: "I am not writing anything until I deliver 'Winds of Winter.' Teleplays, screenplays, short stories, introductions, forewords, nothing."
Since then, the author has appeased his fans with a series of sample chapter reveals, including the latest, which he read to an audience at Balticon.
The full text of the chapter, which featured some shockingly dark scenes, was later transcribed and uploaded by a fan.
As of today, Martin has released 13 sample chapters from "The Winds of Winter."
The website Angry GOT Fans has compiled all of them into a PDF ebook.
