'WWE 2K17' release date news: UFC fighter Brock Lesnar as cover athlete

Brock Lesnar has been revealed to be the cover athlete for the next 2K wrestling game, "WWE 2K17." This is actually a big achievement for Lesnar as he is the first athlete to grace the cover for not just a "WWE 2K" game, but also for a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) game six years ago ("UFC: Undisputed 2010").
In a press release provided by 2K sports, Lesnar says, "My career has been defined by dominating every opportunity presented to me." He shares that he is also excited to represent "WWE 2K17" as the franchise's ambassador, and that he is honored to serve as the cover superstar.
This is the perfect time for Lesnar to be put as the face of the "WWE 2K17," as he is currently a crossover superstar in the world of sports, being a UFC fighter and a pro-wrestler for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
In his blog on JR's Bar-B-Q, WWE Hall-of-Famer Jim Ross also had his own comment on Lesnar being placed as the cover athlete. He says, "Not shocked to see Brock Lesnar on the cover of 'WWE 2K17' because Lesnar 'sells.' No matter the outcome of his UFC 200 fight with heavy handed Mark Hunt, Lesnar is arguably 1 or 1A as it relates to the top stars in WWE."
Some fans see this as a publicity move by the WWE. With Lesnar preparing to face-off with Mark Hunt at UFC 200 on July 9, his popularity is at an all-time high, not to mention that Lesnar is a featured attraction at the WWE SummerSlam in August, no matter the outcome of the fight with Hunt. Lesnar's crossover appeal with both UFC and pro-wrestling fans will likely lead to increased sales of the game.
The game is set out to release Oct. 11 this year, and wrestling fans can wait until then for Brock Lesnar to bring them to "Suplex City."
