Xbox Scorpio vs. PlayStation 4 Neo: Comparison in specs and upgrades

Xbox One | Xbox

The rivalry between game console makers Sony and Microsoft continues on especially now that both companies are gearing up for the release of their new and upgraded consoles. The Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation is betting on their PlayStation 4 Neo while the Redmond-based tech company is boasting their Xbox Scorpio which was recently announced during the E3 2016 event.

Some may be wondering why the two tech giants are racing in launching new consoles despite the fact that it hasn't been long yet since their last console release. The answer is quite simple — virtual reality is moving fast in the gaming industry today and both Sony and Microsoft do not want to be left out in the dark. But which of the two should gamers keep their focus on?

Details of the consoles are not complete yet but Eurogamer performed a specs analysis between the Xbox Scorpio and PS4 Neo. In terms of the graphics, it is said that the PS4 Neo will most likely use AMD's upcoming Polaris graphics hardware. It will have a higher compute units count, which is 18 from PS4 to 36 in PS4 Neo. There's also going to be an increase in the clock speed, which is from 800Mhz to 911 Mhz.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Scorpio may be equipped with a version of AMD's Vega graphics tech with a compute units between 56 and 60 and clock speed at 800 and 850Mhz. Scorpio may be shipped with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM while Neo is rumored to get 8 GB of RAM.

In a chart comparison found on IGN, the Sony variant is listed as having a RAM bandwidth of 218 GB/s. It's not yet known for the Microsoft variant. In terms of the VR integrations, the Xbox Scorpio will be VR compatible while it's not confirmed yet in the PS4 Neo. It will support VR, though.
